Collectively, Jim and Gordon have over 75 years of professional experience in southern decorative arts and architecture, as scholars, consultants, brokers, and appraisers.  Together, they coauthored, with Jim’s wife Marilyn, Eastern Shore, Virginia, Raised-Panel Furniture 1730-1830.  Jim coauthored with Tom Newbern, Classical Norfolk Furniture 1810-1840.  Jim and Gordon also have written numerous articles and lectured extensively on southern furniture, historic trades, period architecture, and archaeology.

Within the past ten years, Jim and Gordon have been deeply involved in preserving our historic resources.  Jim managed the restorations of the Moses Myers House and the Willoughby-Baylor House, National Register historic structures owned by the City of Norfolk and administered by the Chrysler Museum.  Jim also is the curator of the Norfolk Police Department and Museum.  While at the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Gordon managed the Commonwealth of Virginia revolving fund for the purchase and preservation of threatened historic properties within the state. 

John, who is licensed in Virginia, is an Associate Broker at Nancy Chandler Associates in Norfolk. He is the owner and restorer of a National Register plantation in Virginia.
